Where can you go for a tropical beach eco-vacation that is not too hot and buggy in August?

August is the only time my friend and I can go. But Mexico looks really hot and the Caribbean sounds full of mosquitoes. Is that true? We live in upstate NY and do not have too much money- we can't go to Hawaii for example. We are not into big resorts and would prefer a quiet, uncrowded, eco-oriented, restful vacation. Any suggestions?

Very picky eater please help!?

my 16 month old is very very picky. I dont know how he decides if he likes something, but it becoming increasingly buggy. when will he eat more variety and start trying new things? Is there a certain age? He loves all fruit and will eat spinach, pizza cereal occasional chicken nugget baked fries i make at home, yogurt drinks, nutri grain bars, waffels, pancakes. and thats it. I think he is eating a lot of sugar. he wont touch pasta, meat, or anything like that. He weighs 21 pounds and is 31 inches tall. Both me and my husband are small people.
