a stud dog is a dog that people take their girls to to mate you pay the stud owner for this service, the yare pedigree dogs they are (if proper stud dogs) show dogs, they are a prime example of their breed and need to be shown as no reputable breeder will go to a stud dog if it is not being shown and doing well in them, some people who think their pet dogs will make good stud dogs try but will not get anyone coming to use their dog and those that do usually are not proper breeders, so should be avoided any way, if you want to get into stud work then you need to phone a reputable lab breeder and ask them if they think your dog is a excelent example of the breed and if he will get any where in the shows, but shows in their self is not the end of it usually stud and show dogs start their training as a young puppy, they are taught the correct way to stand, walk and in the case of stud dogs, even how to mate in the correct way so both dogs are safe, they are taught certain commands and these dogs are usually highly trained dogs, so this field of interest is not as easy as people think, it is not just your dog you need to think about but the girl dogs that come to you need to be excellent in their breed as well, most breeders have spent years getting the gene pool for their breed to an excellent standard. i hate saying this but to be quite honest to you your dog is the most intellegent and special dog but to someone who has seen hundreds of quality show dogs he may not meet your expectations, and you could end up disapointed, there are enough dogs that have been bred out there that need loving homes, all because people think their dog is would have excellent puppies, breeding takes work, and a lot of years hard work, most of the time pet breeders have no idea what is involed and the dogs suffer, if you only take one thing out of your answers today then please get in touch with a reputable breeder and take their advise, if you are told no your dog won't produce the best type of pups then get him neutered, but research what is involved and take the advise of all the breeders on here who tell you it takes hard work, time and money to get breeding right, even for stud work, it is wonderful that you have such a great dog, you should be proud of him, but leave it at that, you are the owner of a smart and loyal dog, who is the best in the world, but stud work really is not for the owners of pets.
