How can i take i take sticky stuff off my daughter's bedroom door??

on my daughter's bedroom door there are remnents of adhesive that the old home owner left.... i want to repaint the house and i was wondering is there any eaiser way to take it off w/out damaging the door?? I have tried goof off and goo be gone.... i don't want to sc it off the door.... I don't know what else to try... any suggestions??
